As reported earlier, the WLA Board approved the recommendations of its legislative committee for 2005-07 library funding priorities. A new initiative, included in the list of priorities, is an early childhood learning initiative that would provide direct state funding to public libraries for important programs and services for children ages zero to four and their parents and caregivers. The vision: All Wisconsin public libraries and their branches will be effective early learning resource centers for children zero to four years of age, their parents, and their caregivers so that every child in Wisconsin will enter school ready to read and learn.
