On April 21, Governor Doyle vetoed AB 431, relating to exemptions from county library tax, stating, "I feel strongly that library funding arrangements are working statewide and object to any bill that endangers the quality of our libraries." While WLA had agreed to compromise language, given its likely passage in the legislature, the association felt it was a bill that offered a bad statewide solution to a local problem.
